O’Tarat Aulad al Sahra’s – diagnosed with Radius Curvus Syndrom (Elbow Dysplasia) The purpose of this informative publication on our website is to warn other Azawakh fans and breeders that the problem of Radius Curvus (one of the causes of elbow dysplasia) exists in Azawakhs. In the case of Tarat Aulad al Sahra’s the medical reports clearly state the genetic root of this problem – Tarat suffered from the premature Ulna Closure in both front legs, and any mechanical trauma was excluded both on the basis of the RTGs as well as on the basis of the breeders reassurance that Tarat did not experience any traumatic injuries in the kennel. Therefore, I would like to warn any new potential buyers of puppies from this line to ask for proper RTG pictures of the parents and of the puppies before purchasing. That way one could secure themselves from buying a dog with this condition.

An e-mail from Dr. Ines Holz from the Munich University Clinic confirming Radius Curvus and Carpus Valgus on the x-rays of Tarat’s legs:
>> e-mail <<
The breeder agreed with the diagnosis and with the genetic disposition of Tarat's condition and on the 30th of March sent us an e-mail and offered to pay for Tarat's surgery.
On the same day the breeder ofered to pay for the osteotomy I replied to them and accepted their offer: The breeder did pay for the first operation of corrective osteotomy.
>> e-mail 1<<
However, nowadays the breeder does not agree with the diagnosis any more, and has contacted us through a lawyer that we should not talk nor write about Aulad al Sahra’s kennel having Radius Curvus diagnosed within their line.
I have sent all the documents and copies of the RTG pics to the VDH asking for their opinion in our case. We received a following answer:
>> VDH << PDF.
We believe the medical reports and we respect the VDH statement as well as we observed the development of Radius Curvus Syndrome with Tarat. We have no doubts Tarat has a genetic fault. Therefore, Tarat will never be used for breeding. Today his elbows are correct and show no incongurance, the left Radius is being corrected. We hope Tarat will live a long, quality life with us."
